What Is Google Business Profile?

Formerly known as Google My Business, the Google Business Profile is a free platform provided by Google for both private companies and public organisations. Its main purpose is to help users find businesses and institutions that offer the products or services they need.

Launched in 2014, the platform has been continuously improved and has become one of the most effective ways to enhance online presence and attract new customers — all at no cost.

To join the platform, the business owner or authorised representative must create a listing and add public information such as address, phone number, website, opening hours, social media links and photos.

How Does Google Business Profile Work?

Once the profile is verified, the business gains a public listing that can be reviewed by customers. Clients can rate the business on a five-star scale based on their experience:

⭐ 1 star – Terrible
⭐⭐ 2 stars – Poor
⭐⭐⭐ 3 stars – Average
⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4 stars – Good
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 stars – Excellent

In addition to a star rating, customers can leave written reviews describing their experience and may even upload photos or videos. These reviews are displayed in Google Search and have a direct impact on the public reputation of the business.

The overall reputation score is calculated as the average of all customer ratings. The closer this average is to five stars, the stronger the company’s public image — and consequently, the better its ranking in Google’s local search results.
